About Troop 603

*Mission Statement

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

*Vision Statement

The Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. In the future, Scouting will continue to;
--- Offer young people responsible fun and adventure;
--- Instill in young people lifetime values and develop in them ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law;
--- Train young people in citizenship, service, and leadership;
--- Serve America’s communities and families with its quality, values-based program.

*Life Skills in a Values-Based Environment

Scouting is a values-based program with its own code of conduct. The Scout Oath and Law help instill the values of good conduct and honesty. A boy who spends one year in a Scout troop will learn lifetime skills. He will learn basic outdoor skills, self-reliance, and how to get along with others. Scouting will prepare him to live a more productive and fulfilling life.

If you are aware of an Eagle Scout from Troop 1 or Troop 603 who is not on this list please contact us.

Troop 603 is chartered with the United Church of Milton and we meet weekly there on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 pm. We currently have 24 members, 3 of which are at Life rank. We serve students who have competed the 5th grade (or have earned their Arrow of Light) through 12th grade (ages 11-18).

Our Troop believes in giving back to the community. Frequently the Town of Milton Recreation contacts us for assistance for volunteer hours. Over the 2014-15 winter season we have been called upon to help shovel out an elderly gentlemen so that he could receive his meals on wheels deliveries, assist a shut-in with shoveling and keeping her firewood supply full. If you know of a non-profit organization or a needy individual who could use some of assistance please contact us.

We are an active Troop and do a lot of camping. We have had orienteering, wilderness survival weekends at Mt. Norris Scout Reservation, a Canoe camping trip at Burton Island, camping at Grand Isle State Park as well as at the Sportsman Club of Franklin County each year in the Spring and Fall for our Troop shoot weekends (supervised by NRA instructors). We have also done some hiking and attend a week of summer camp each year. In 2015 we will be camping at Curtis Read Scout Reservation in Brant Lake, NY. In the past we have gone to Treasure Valley Scout Reservation in Massachusetts, Camp Bedford in NY, Camp Wakpominee and Rotary Scout Reservation in NY.

Troop 603 is a Boy Led Troop and we believe strongly in guiding boys to becoming strong leaders. The youth leaders meet annually to plan their upcoming year and then meet monthly to finalize plans for the 3 months ahead. They learned to be responsible, organized citizens capable of making decisions and leading a group.
